Thanks for spreading the word on this, Robyn. One of the many interesting things about this contest is that it is an apples-to-apples contest, with all designers playing on the same field.
Once contestants get past the initial design stage of the contest (one category for hand-drawn designs, one for CAD-CAM designs), they will have to physically produce their pieces.
Designers will have to use the same gemstones — either a 9×7 mm faceted oval aquamarine or a 9×7 oval rhodolite cabochon. At the production stage of the contest, gemstones will be supplied to contestants at no charge by contest sponsor GEM 2000.
